That truism that sequels were never good not doing anything Calatrava Jaime (Madrid, 1986), a treasure hunter in the world so diverse that fits under the word vintage. The architect of the brand Calatrava Selected surprised three months ago when all the clothes that had accumulated in his travels, from Yves Saint Laurent tuxedo to a Chanel tweed, took them out for sale in the showroom Blanca Zurita (Wafer, 22 / phone 91 360 55 15). And success followed him. So he throws a second time the next 21, 22, 23 this month.

This time the search has focused on the aesthetics of the late seventies and early eighties. And why has called Cruise 1979. “It’s my favorite stage,” said Calatrava. “Everything at that time was very feminine, elegant, both in clothes and makeup. They got looks superfluous, with spots, hats, gauze, silk … a little reminiscing about the forties. Very splendid, but also decadent Parisian. ”

The parts of that world Frenchified found them, especially in New York. It seems a paradox, but it is not. That city, as London is a paradise of vintage clothing with an established culture and legions of followers willing to hunt for historical items. In this second collection, the items are signed by Leonard, Azzaro and much Yves Saint Laurent (YSL), designer fetish. But this time the star piece is by Christian Dior, a couture dress collection spring-summer 1979, which is the piece that was inspired by the collection name. The price? 1,500 euros. According to his fixer, “very gifted” to the kind of piece it is, a couture model was legendary designer of the house for years, Marc Bohan, the same as in 1960 replaced the great YSL. A suit that appears in the magazine L’Officiel of that year.

There are more pieces chosen, a total of 300. A Givenchy gown, another of Azzaro in the seventies (“amazing,” says Calatrava) with transparent black tulle sleeves, and also some of Oscar de la Renta, Lanvin and Courreges, ranging in price from 50 euros and 1,500 discharge seam. Calatrava, who seduced him as a child fashion and spent long hours peering into the closet of his mother (and what is more outrageous, keeping brands) do not know if there will be a third time. “I guess so. In Spain ever known and you want more vintage. And you have to do interesting things to encourage this city. ”

During the twentieth century changed the world completely. And the fashion was no exception and evolved at the same speed that made the society and even in some respects was able to anticipate these changes. It is clear that fashion began in 1900 but did not do a review of the 10 decades of the twentieth century can give a pretty good trends that eventually reach or which just left.

In 1900 at the Universal Exposition in Paris, establishing the so-called Pavillon de l’Elegance, where selected by Jeanne Paquin, creator of the world famous Empire dresses and kimono coat and whose career was overshadowed by the fact of being female present their garments the most important couturiers of the time between those found Doucet, of which his clothes today are not remembered but never forget his name because he was the discoverer of the fashion designers who changed the years: Paul Poiret and Madeleine Vionnet, and Worth, an Englishman who revolutionized the fashion world by signing their clothes like the painters, and that created the term “haute couture” to describe the luxury and detail their models.

These are the years of the Belle Epoque, the silhouette of S that was achieved with rigid corsets narrowed waist while stressing breasts and hips, and stood out especially with skirts to the ground that widened creating a mermaid silhouette.

But the real revolution of this decade is the abandonment of the corset, which would release the woman completely changing your relationship with your own body and fashion.
